Vodka Gimlet

Vodka Gimlet

This drink allegedly has its origins in the British Navy, courtesy of Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette, a naval doctor. Legend has it that while in service at the end of the 19th century, he gave the sailors gin mixed with lime cordial. This was his way of promoting the consumption of scurvy-preventing citrus fruit.

Recipe

  • 2 oz / 50 ml vodka
  • 1⁄2 oz / 12.5 ml lime cordial

Shake the ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a lime wheel mounted on the rim.
